The problem
The drawer full of tarnished earrings. You know the one.
You buy them because they’re pretty. You wear them for two weeks. Then they go dark and your finger turns green. You bin them and buy more.
It’s not bad luck, and it’s not your skin. A lot of cheap costume jewellery is brass with a whisper-thin gold plating: when the plating wears off, the copper underneath oxidises. Black on the metal, green on your skin.
Why we exist
Gold-tone is everywhere. Guaranteed, almost never.
On one side, costume jewellery that costs next to nothing: pretty, lasts a month. On the other, real gold from a jeweller’s: lasts forever, but starts at a couple of hundred. In between, there’s plenty of gold-tone, steel included. What was missing was someone to guarantee it in writing, for life.
UpperEast was born to fix that. Gold-tone jewellery you never have to take off, at online-shop prices, with a written lifetime guarantee: if it tarnishes, we’ll replace it.
Why do they cost so little? We only sell online: no high-street shop, no shop assistants, no chain mark-ups. And there’s no solid gold inside: you pay for the jewellery, not the rent.
And the name? It comes from New York’s Upper East Side: polished, never over the top. That’s the everyday look we wanted.

The gold colour is applied with PVD, which is tougher than traditional gold plating.
Made for real life
Shower, sweat, sunscreen: they’re made to stay on, day in, day out. Just keep them away from bleach and harsh cleaning products.

If the plating tarnishes, flakes or peels with normal wear, send us a photo and your order number. Within 5 working days, you choose: a new piece, store credit +10% (valid for 12 months) or a refund.
